Director Frank Borzage and screenwriter Frances Marion make beautiful music out of Fannie Hurst's famous tale. After years of hard work, Gaston Glass achieves success as a concert violinist, allowing him to move his mother (Vera Gordon) out of the tenements and into a fashionable uptown apartment, and to propose to childhood sweetheart Alma Rubens.
