Spanish filmmaker Isabel Coixet has made an award-winning career traversing between Spanish (UN AMOR) and English language (THE BOOKSHOP, LEARNING TO DRIVE) cinema with ease. For her first film in Italian, Coixet adapts Michela Murgia’s novel, a bittersweet crowd-pleaser starring Alba Rohrwacher (LA CHIMERA, THE WONDERS) as Marta, a mousey gym teacher learning to live again. Heartbroken from a breakup with her rising chef boyfriend (Elio Germano, SICILIAN LETTERS, NINE), Marta begins to notice something more than sadness: She has lost her appetite. When her doctor (Sarita Choudhury, AND JUST LIKE THAT…, MISSISSIPPI MASALA) discovers that Marta’s loss of appetite has more to do with her health than the pain of separation, everything changes: the taste of food, the sound of music, her feelings of desire and her certainty about choices she has made.
