THE DINNER
Special Features: Opening Night | Post-screening wine reception sponsored by the Embassy of Spain
[LA CENA]
In the turbulent aftermath of the Spanish Civil War, a grand dinner is planned to celebrate the nationalist triumph of Franco in the iconic and luxurious Hotel Palace in Madrid. The only problem is the hotel is currently functioning as a hospital, and its kitchen staff of Republican chefs are set to be executed. It is up to lieutenant Medina (Mario Casas) and the hotel’s maître, Genaro (Alberto San Juan), to pull off a miracle and get the dinner ready over the course of one short afternoon. History, politics and comedy collide in filmmaker Manuel Gómez Pereira’s biting farce, which was nominated for eight Goya Awards and won two, including Best Adapted Screenplay. (Note adapted from Film Factory Entertainment.) DIR/SCR Manuel Gómez Pereira; SCR Yolanda García Serrano, Joaquín Oristrell, from the play by José Luis Alonso de Santos; PROD Lina Badenes, Roberto Butragueño, Cristóbal García.
