CELTIC UTOPIA

Special Features: East Coast Premiere | Q&A with director Dennis Harvey

[UTÓIPE CHEILTEACH]
Ireland’s traditional folk music scene is being redefined and reformed by a new wave of young artists coming from punk, hip-hop and beyond to rediscover an ancient tradition and take it in unexpected directions. Dennis Harvey and Lars Lovén’s acclaimed documentary, which had its world premiere at the 2025 Locarno Critics Week where it won the Grand Prix, is an exploration of postcolonial identity, social change and reclamation of language and heritage. The film is a vibrant and often hilarious portrait of a new, talented and politically engaged generation that is acknowledging the residual legacy and pain of colonial wounds and their dreams of a brighter inclusive future for all. Featuring: The Mary Wallopers, The Deadlians, Jinx Lennon, Poor Creature, Naoise Mac Cathmhaoil, Negro Impacto, Chi-chi Enyoazu, Rising Damp, Young Spencer, Susan Hughes, Post Punk Podge and more. DIR/SCR Dennis Harvey, Lars Lovén; PROD Elin Lilleman Eriksson. Sweden/Ireland, 2025, color, 90 min. In English and Irish with English subtitles. NOT RATED
