THE CAPTIVE
Special Features: Special Presentation
[EL CAUTIVO]
Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Alejandro Amenábar (THE OTHERS, THE SEA INSIDE) reimagines the imprisonment of “Don Quixote” author Miguel de Cervantes as a swashbuckling epic adventure filled with daring escapes, emotional betrayals and secret romances. In 1575, young Spanish soldier Cervantes (Julio Peña Fernández) is held prisoner in Algiers after being captured at sea by Ottoman corsairs. Grabbing the attention of Hasán, the Bajá of Algiers (Alessandro Borghi, THE EIGHT MOUNTAINS), Cervantes starts spending time in his quarters, weaving fantastical tales in exchange for a few hours outside the prison walls. But as the relationship blossoms between captive and captor, Cervantes will have to decide how far he is willing to go for freedom. –Josh Gardner
