ELDER SON
Special Features: Special Presentation | North American Premiere
[HIJO MAYOR]
Torn between her identity as a native Argentinean and her strong Korean heritage, pink-haired teen Lila struggles to figure out where she belongs as she is dragged on a weekend camping trip with her father, Antonio. Reuniting with a rowdy crew of fellow Korean immigrants from his youth, they eat, drink and reminisce, revealing a side of Lila’s father she has never really gotten to know. 18 years earlier, Antonio forged his own path. He first immigrated to Paraguay where he was a stylish young man in a RESERVOIR DOGS getup attempting to make enough money to bring his wife and first child from Korea. An unexpected romance and a failed business left their mark on Antonio, but as past and present collide, Lila starts to find her own way forward. In her narrative feature debut, filmmaker Cecilia Kang incorporates documentary footage of her own family, crafting a wistful generational saga that boldly announces an exciting new voice in Argentine cinema. –Josh Gardner
