Teenager Bebo and his older brother Charlie spend their days along the coast of Puerto Rico fishing, tending to horses and doing whatever they can to earn money. Determined to make ends meet, they must resist the temptation of Charlie’s friends-turned-criminals’ overtures to bring them into the fold. But as the inescapable specter of violence looms large, Bebo goes on the run with Lola, a girl from a wealthy family who feels similarly adrift within the confines of the island. A striking directorial debut, ESTA ISLA paints a portrait of Puerto Rican youth struggling with the path placed before them and seeking to forge their own. The film won three awards at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival, including Best New Narrative Director and Best Cinematography in the U.S. Narrative Feature competition, and received the John Cassavetes Award at the 2026 Film Independent Spirit Awards.
