THE LEGEND OF THE VAGABOND QUEEN OF LAGOS
Young mother Jawu (a riveting Temi Ami-Williams, EYIMOFE) lives in Agbojedo, a floating slum in the lagoon that gives Lagos its name, scraping together a meager life while saving for a brighter future. Amidst rumors of a real estate development deal that threatens to raze her community to the ground, Jawu comes upon a corrupt official (Adebowale Adedayo, FREEDOM WAY) burying a wad of cash. Believing this to be her ticket out of poverty, Jawu unearths the money but finds herself caught up in a struggle larger than she anticipated. This gripping thriller is both a fierce battle cry and hopeful hymn. Made by the Agbajowo Collective — a group of young storytellers and film professionals mostly from Lagos — the film is inspired by real stories of mass displacement across the largest city in Nigeria and the most populous urban area on the African continent.
