Filmmakers Daniel Hoesl and Julia Niemann skewer the 1% in this sharp satire that asks the question: if your unimaginable wealth would protect you from everything, what would you do every day? For Amon (Laurence Rupp), the patriarch of a billionaire family, that would be taking aim at people from afar using his prized hunting rifle. His predilection is an open secret, with journalists, politicians and even the police turning a blind eye to his depraved hobby. Meanwhile, Amon’s daughter is showing an interest in his rifle collection while his wife is literally shopping for a surrogate. Produced by Austrian filmmaker Ulrich Seidl, known for his own grim social critiques, VENI VIDI VICI features a terrific cast and deadpan humor that emphasizes the absurdity of how differently the haves are treated from the have-nots. –Javier Chavez
