BATTLE HYMN Watch Trailer

BATTLE HYMN

Struggling with post-traumatic stress from a mission gone awry in World War II, former bomber pilot Colonel Dean Hess (Douglas Sirk regular Rock Hudson) wants to make amends. He first turns to religion, becoming a preacher, but it's not long before he re-enrolls in the Air Force. Shipping off to the Korean War, he devotes most of his spare time to building an orphanage, desperate not to repeat the sins of his past. Sirk shot the film, based on a true story, in CinemaScope and Technicolor, bringing thrills to the impressive aerial combat scenes, but as always, remains more interested in the murky ambiguity of faith, love and redemption. DIR Douglas Sirk; SCR Charles Grayson, Vincent B. Evans; PROD Ross Hunter. U.S., 1957, color, 108 min. NOT RATED
