PANDA! GO PANDA!
Special Features: 50th Anniversary
[PANDA KOPANDA] [パンダ・コパンダ]
Cheerful young girl Mimiko is left to her own devices while her grandmother is away. When petite panda Panny and his father PapaPanda stumble into her home, Mimiko welcomes them as her new family but discovers caring for her cuddly friends is a challenge. The trio soon embarks on adventures to the zoo and the circus. Released at the peak of the panda craze in 1972, when the Chinese government gifted pairs of giant pandas to zoos across the world in an act of "panda diplomacy," PANDA! GO PANDA! is a charming, early-career classic from animation maestros Isao Takahata (as director) and Hayao Miyazaki (as writer), made more than a decade before the two founded Studio Ghibli. The film is technically two shorts in one package, as the success of the original PANDA! GO PANDA! led to an equally successful sequel released in 1973, PANDA! GO PANDA: THE RAINY-DAY CIRCUS. DIR Isao Takahata; SCR Hayao Miyazaki; PROD Shunzo Kato. Japan, 1972, color, 79 min. NOT RATED
