JUJU STORIES Watch Trailer

JUJU STORIES

From the creative forces of the Surreal 16 Collective, an artistically minded alternative to the Nollywood aesthetic, comes a three-part anthology film about the disruptive power of juju (magic) in everyday Nigerian life. In Abba Makama's YAM, a street urchin gets more than he bargained for after pocketing money found on the street. In Michael Omonua's LOVE POTION, a woman turns to juju to claim her ideal husband. And in C. J. "Fiery" Obasi's SUFFER THE WITCH, a young woman suffers dire consequences when she attracts her crush's interest. With these playful and unsettling films, Surreal 16 invites audiences to question their perspectives of the "norm" in contemporary African society. Official Selection, 2021 Locarno Film Festival. (Note adapted from Locarno Film Festival.) DIR/SCR Abba Makama, C. J."Fiery" Obasi, Michael Omonua; PROD Oge Obasi. Nigeria/France, 2021, color, 84 min. In English. NOT RATED
