GOOD NIGHT, AND GOOD LUCK.
Nominated for six Academy Awards®, including Best Picture, Best Director (George Clooney) and Best Actor (David Strathairn), GOOD NIGHT, AND GOOD LUCK chronicles the historical conflict between television newsman Edward R. Murrow (Strathairn) and Senator Joseph McCarthy during the early days of broadcast journalism in 1950s America. With a desire to report the facts and enlighten the public via his CBS show SEE IT NOW, Murrow and his dedicated staff — headed by his producer Fred Friendly (Clooney) and correspondent Joe Wershba (Robert Downey, Jr.) — defy corporate and sponsorship pressures to examine the lies and scaremongering tactics perpetrated by McCarthy and the House Un-American Activities Committee during his communist "witch-hunts." In this climate of fear and reprisal, the CBS crew carries on, and their tenacity proves historic and monumental. (Note adapted from Warner Bros.) DIR/SCR George Clooney; SCR/PROD Grant Heslov.
