BEGOTTEN
Special Features: New 4K Restoration
This underground bootleg cult hit has been passed along like urban legend with theatrical screenings few and far between. The film has no characters in the ordinary sense; its final credits name three principal figures: God Killing Himself, Mother Earth and Son of Earth — Flesh on Bone. BEGOTTEN is about what these names do to each other and to the earth, a cycle of violence and rebirth, a collection of haunting tableaux that sears into memory. Enigmatic and visceral, this avant-garde phenomenon finally returns to theaters in its fully realized 4K restoration. (Note adapted from Kino Lorber). DIR/SCR/PROD E. Elias Merhige. U.S., 1989, b&w, 72 min. Silent with English intertitles. NOT RATED
Restoration personally supervised by filmmaker E. Elias Merhige. Restored from the original 16mm negative and optical soundtrack. It was scanned and restored in 4K, and final grading was done at Filmscan & more in Munich, Germany.
