CHICKEN RUN

Day in and day out, the British chickens on Tweedy’s Farm, led by rebellious hen Ginger (Julia Sawalha), plot their escape from their foul home. Unfortunately, their efforts to fly the coop are repeatedly defeathered by Mr. and Mrs. Tweedy and their vicious guard dogs. When American rooster Rocky (Mel Gibson) accidentally crash lands inside the farm, Ginger believes their salvation is at hand — once Rocky teaches them all how to fly. Directed by Peter Lord and Nick Park, Aardman Animation’s first feature film is an eggs-quisite comedy filled with the studio’s trademark British wit, slapstick antics and impeccable animation. In addition to Sawalha and Gibson, its spectacular voice cast includes Miranda Richardson, Timothy Spall and Imelda Staunton. To date, it remains the highest grossing stop-motion animated film of all time. DIR/PROD Nick Park, Peter Lord; SCR Karey Kirkpatrick; PROD David Sproxton. UK/France/U.S., 2000, color, 84 min.
