LAW AND ORDER (1932)

LAW AND ORDER (1932)

Special Features: New 4K Restoration | Intro by film historian Richard Koszarski

“The killingest peace officer that ever lived,” a hardened gunslinger (Walter Huston) rides into Tombstone, Arizona, amid a rigged election and reluctantly accepts the position of marshal. Facing a corrupt sheriff, his campaign to impose order by any means necessary begins to mirror the very lawlessness he has sworn to crush. Director Edward L. Cahn’s restless, prowling camera transforms a frontier showdown into something closer to a gangster film’s mob war — its violence and cynicism anticipating the moral bleakness of postwar film noir. This gripping western is also a somber elegy for the end of lawlessness in the west, as moral fatigue gives way to uneasy law and order. DIR Edward L. Cahn; SCR Tom Reed, from the novel “Saint Johnson” by W.R. Burnett; PROD Carl Laemmle Jr. U.S.,1932, b&w, 72 min. NOT RATED
