A rollicking coming-of-age tale and an exuberant portrait of Puerto Rico, SUMMER OF THREE won the Best Performance and Best Screenplay awards at the 2026 Tribeca Film Festival. After spending most of his youth in Los Angeles, 17-year-old Javi (Marcel Ruiz) makes the prodigal return to his native Puerto Rico to attend the funeral of his grandfather. Reacquainting himself with both his family and the island itself, Javi decides to open up to new adventures and experiences when he meets boisterous misfit Luife (Paolo Schoene) and his beguiling girlfriend, Kiki (Kiki Montilla). The oddball couple play by their own rules, treating the island like their personal playground and living life with reckless abandon. But as Javi starts to develop feelings for Kiki, a dangerous game emerges between the three friends. Schoene and Montilla are major discoveries while Ruiz impresses, producing and co-writing the script with his father, director Carlitos Ruíz-Ruíz. –Josh Gardner
