NARCISO

Special Features: Special Presentation | U.S. Premiere

Asunción, 1959. Radio DJ Narciso Arévalos (Diro Romero) returns from Buenos Aires baptized by the raucous sounds of rock and roll. With his matinee-idol good looks and pompadour hairstyle, he quickly becomes an object of desire for men and women alike. But the local radio station sticks to the standards, playing Paraguayan folk tunes, until Narciso’s unrelenting charm offensive gets him a spot playing something more modern on the airwaves. He quickly turns into a sensation, the music of Buddy Holly and Chuck Berry becoming a beacon of hope and freedom for the youth of the nation. But this new rebellious energy runs antithetical to the ever-tightening grip of Alfredo Stroessner’s military regime. Paraguayan filmmaker Marcelo Martinessi (THE HEIRESSES) won the FIPRESCI Critics Prize at the 2026 Berlin Film Festival for this exquisitely mounted period thriller. –Josh Gardner
