Deep in the Guatemalan highlands, Romero (Józef Coxaj) leads a seemingly beautiful life with his wife and young child. But he dreams of something bigger, so he leaves his family behind to search for work in Guatemala City, with promises of returning in six months. He gets hired as a security guard in a rundown mall, finding accommodation alongside some of the other employees. On his daily patrol, he starts to notice Nubia (Lola Vásquez), a trans woman who owns one of the shops in the mall. Together they make space for their desires, starting a delicate relationship that quickly runs deep. But violence looms in a world full of toxic masculinity and traditional values. The feature debut from Joaquín Ruana is a richly sensual inquiry into the heart of yearning, featuring breathtakingly naked performances from its two leads. –Josh Gardner
