September 11, 1973. Duty-bound military man Captain Jorge Silva (Nicolás Zárate) starts his day like any other, training cadets at the Air Force Academy in Chile. But as Pinochet’s military coup d’état takes the country by storm, Silva’s strict moral code will be challenged. Because he served under President Salvador Allende, Silva’s allegiances are questioned, especially when his old rival, Colonel Jahn, marches onto the base with terrifying orders. Silva is tasked with taking truckloads of badly roughed-up protestors from Santiago and set up an interrogation camp in an empty hangar. Careful not to ruffle any feathers and risk the safety of his family, he obeys. But the brutality he begins to witness forces Silva to make a dangerous choice — and perhaps even the ultimate sacrifice. Inspired by true events, filmmaker Juan Pablo Sallato’s debut feature is a breathless political thriller, elevated by striking black-and-white photography, immersive sound design and an incredibly tightly wound central performance. –Josh Gardner
