In the southeastern Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte, a public bus goes about its regularly scheduled route, packed to the brim with riders. Without reason, the bus veers off an overpass, killing all but one of its passengers. As news media starts to sensationalize this tragic story, they begin to speculate that the driver, Wesley, may have purposefully caused the accident. His 75-year-old mother, Vicentina (Rejane Faria), is left to pick up the pieces. Drowning in her own sorrow, she decides to find the family of each victim and apologize personally for their loss. A humanist meditation on grief and the power of forgiveness, ON BEHALF OF MY SON was selected to premiere in the Oscar®-qualifying Platform competition at the 2026 Toronto Film Festival and marks the continued artistic ascendance of Brazilian filmmaker Gabriel Martins (MARS ONE). – Josh Gardner
