Left to rot on the vine at a Michelin-starred restaurant in São Paolo, 50-something sommelier Isabel (Marina Person) cannot seem to please her boss, who does not understand her love of challenging, natural wines made in Brazil. Prone to taking these rejected bottles home for an after-work drink, Isabel starts toying with the idea of opening her own wine bar, where she can call the shots and pour the glasses. A wealthy American businessman (John Ortiz, AMERICAN FICTION, CARLITO’S WAY) appears ready to invest, but Isabel discovers the hard way that she will have to rely on her own strength and grit to make her dreams a reality. Shooting on rich 16mm film stock, filmmaker Gabe Klinger (PORTO) took inspiration from the boundless energy and spirit of São Paolo to bring this effervescent portrait to life. Person, best known in Brazil as an accomplished filmmaker and former MTV VJ, collaborated on the screenplay and makes an effortless transition to leading lady, turning Isabel into a fully realized woman with deep passions, dry wit and complex imperfections. –Josh Gardner
