A BUG'S LIFE

For their sophomore outing, the animation wizards at Pixar adapted Aesop’s fable “The Ant and the Grasshopper” (with a dash of Akira Kurosawa’s epic SEVEN SAMURAI, also playing at the Silver this summer). Flik (voiced by Dave Foley) is a smart yet clumsy ant whose newfangled inventions, while meant to help his colony, are complete nuisances. His latest contraption inadvertently destroys the food stores earmarked for a bullying grasshopper gang that threatens to destroy the colony unless the cache is replenished at twice the original size. To save his home, Flik journeys out into the world, where he recruits a band of tough bugs to fight the grasshoppers — except these “warriors” are actually a bumbling troupe of circus bugs!
