Returning to romantic comedy for the first time since the genre-defining WHEN HARRY MET SALLY…, Rob Reiner directed THE AMERICAN PRESIDENT, a rom-com with a whip-smart political bite courtesy of a screenplay by Aaron Sorkin. Widowed U.S. president Andrew Shepherd (Michael Douglas) is on the campaign trail for a second term, which he should win with ease. He just needs to pass a moderate crime-control bill to seal the deal. But when Shepherd meets and falls in love with the up-and-coming Washington lobbyist Sydney Ellen Wade (Annette Bening), he must risk everything as his opponents start questioning their burgeoning relationship. The film co-stars Richard Dreyfuss, Michael J. Fox and Martin Sheen as the White House chief of staff.
