UNTAMABLE
[INDOMPTABLES]
French filmmaker Thomas Ngijol freely adapts the documentary A MURDER IN ABIDJAN into a tense yet humorous police procedural about a man of principle and tradition reaching his breaking point. In the Cameroonian capital of Yaoundé, Inspector Billong (Ngijol) investigates the murder of a fellow police officer while beset by the corruption and ineptitude plaguing local law enforcement. His home life is no less strained, as his stern, paternalistic authority is questioned by his children. With pressure mounting on all fronts, can Billong solve the puzzling crime and keep his head above water? Primarily known as a comedian in France, Ngijol treads new ground with this exhilarating and often humorous thriller that premiered in the prestigious Directors’ Fortnight section of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. Its charm is no doubt indebted to the Blaxploitation genre, most evident in the soundtrack by Dany Synthé and Isko that frequently uses the sounds of Marvin Gaye.
