Descended from a family of expert brewers, sisters Pirkko and Taina constantly ferment and taste their sahti, a traditional farmhouse-style ale, in hopes of achieving the “perfect 10” batch. But their uninhibited lifestyle has worn thin the patience of their small town. When their third sister, Päivi, arrives from the big city to announce that she is going to be married, she has already decided the gift she would like from her degenerate sisters: 100 liters of their finest beer. Long-suffering alcoholics over the guilt of injuring Päivi in a car crash decades ago, Pirkko and Taina take to their task with the upmost seriousness, managing to brew the best batch of sahti they have ever created. The only problem comes when they wake up a day before the wedding, reeling from a weeks-long bender, with not a drop of sahti remaining. Racing against the clock, the two sisters set out to collect on past debts and barter for — or even steal — any sahti they can get their hands on to avoid letting down their sister. 100 LITERS OF GOLD is a hilarious riff on the buddy comedy, blending bawdy laughs with sobering looks in the mirror at the ways we punish ourselves for past actions. –Eli Prysant
