CINDERELLA (1950)

Special Features: 75th Anniversary

There is no better time to revisit this timeless classic, filled with enduring songs and enchanting imagery, than on the occasion of its 75th anniversary. Cinderella is forced to live in squalor as a servant for her cruel stepmother and stepsisters. When the King invites all eligible maidens to a royal ball, Cinderella is determined to attend — until her stepfamily intervenes, tearing her handmade dress to pieces. Her cries are answered by her Fairy Godmother, who turns the torn dress into a beautiful gown, an ordinary pumpkin into a brilliant carriage and some friendly mice into noble steeds, and sends Cinderella on her way to meet Prince Charming — but the magical spell will only last until the stroke of midnight! Following a string of box office disappointments, CINDERELLA marked a turning point for Walt Disney Studios as it was enormously popular with audiences and critics alike; upon release, it became the studio’s biggest hit since SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS (1937) and garnered three Academy Award® nominations, including Best Original Song for “Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo.” The centuries old fairy tale and vivid visuals — which create an expansive, colorful world around its central characters — have enraptured the young and old alike, generation after generation.
