High schooler Max Goof pines for his classmate Roxanne and is desperate for her to notice him. With the help of his friends P.J. and Bobby, Max turns a routine school assembly into a rambunctious concert where he lip syncs and dances as everyone’s favorite pop star, Powerline. Impressed by his show of bravado, Roxanne accepts Max’s invitation to attend a Powerline watch party in the summer. All is going according to plan until Goofy is informed by Max’s principal about his son’s “juvenile delinquency” and decides an impromptu cross-country father-son fishing trip is just what the two of them need. The first feature-length Goofy movie, based on the then-popular tv show GOOF TROOP, is a fun-for-all-ages romp about first love and family bonds that became a treasured entry in the millennial film canon, not least in part thanks to a bopping score by Carter Burwell and two earworms in the songs “Stand Out” and “I 2 I,” performed by Tevin Campbell.
