LEONORA IN THE MORNING LIGHT
Special Features: Special Presentation | U.S. Premiere | Q&A with filmmakers Thor Klein and Lena Vurma on Oct. 4
Mixing and mingling with the surrealist crowd in 1930s Paris, British artist Leonora Carrington (Olivia Vinall) starts a tempestuous romance with leading figure Max Ernst (Alexander Scheer). Although Leonora is never one to shy away from confrontation, her spirit is tested when World War II sweeps through France, destroying the art community and sending her spiraling. As she continues to reckon with a challenging relationship with her father, Leonora’s demons rear their heads as she suffers breakdowns and struggles to start a new life. But a move to Mexico offers her a chance to come into her own as an artist. Based on the bestselling novel by Mexican author Elena Poniatowska, LEONORA IN THE MORNING LIGHT is a lush biopic from co-directors Thor Klein and Lena Vurma that presents a portrait of a complex, rebellious woman who would become one of the biggest artists of her generation. –Josh Gardner
