IT'S NEVER OVER, JEFF BUCKLEY
The theatrical release of IT’S NEVER OVER, JEFF BUCKLEY includes 26 minutes of exclusive remastered footage from a rare Jeff Buckley solo performance at The Middle East in Cambridge, MA, filmed on February 19, 1994. This previously unreleased set will screen immediately following the film, offering both longtime fans and newcomers a rare opportunity to experience Jeff Buckley's raw, unfiltered brilliance.
Rising musician Jeff Buckley had only released one album when he died suddenly in 1997 at the age of just 30. Now, never-before-seen footage, exclusive voice messages and accounts from those closest to him offer a portrait of the captivating singer. Academy Award®-nominated filmmaker Amy Berg (DELIVER US FROM EVIL) paints an elegant and compassionate portrait of the late Buckley, whose once-in-a-generation voice and boundary-pushing artistry are spotlit for both existing fans and newcomers to his catalog. Beautiful scores and resonant, rare live performances underscore Buckley’s fullness of character — a history of the love and loss that shaped him and thus the international music culture of the late 20th century. Discordant as Buckley’s end was, Berg makes space for the consonances in between through special archival material and Buckley’s own diaristic narration. This film is a hum that echoes, and, like Buckley's “Hallelujah,” it takes on a light and life of its own. DIR/PROD Amy Berg; PROD Jennie Bedusa, Mandy Chang, Christine Connor, Ryan Heller, Matthew Roozen. U.S., 2025, color, 135 min. (includes 26 min. of exclusive concert footage). NOT RATED
