GODZILLA VS. MEGAGUIRUS

Special Features: 25th Anniversary

[GOJIRA TAI MEGAGIRASU: JĪ SHŌMETSU SAKUSEN] [ゴジラ × メガギラス G消滅作戦]
The Japanese government’s anti-Godzilla unit develops a weapon capable of producing miniature black holes with the hope of sealing the reptilian menace in another dimension and saving Japan once and for all. Unfortunately, their plans go awry, and the weapon instead opens a wormhole from which emerges a gargantuan insect-like creature that lays eggs that birth a swarm of dragonfly monsters. The creatures then feed off of Godzilla’s energy and transfer it to their dreadful queen — the gigantic Megaguirus! The last Godzilla film made and released in the 20th century was helmed by first-time director Masaaki Tezuka, who wanted to write an ALIENS-like story; he would go on to direct two more films in the franchise’s Millennium era. The terrifying Meganulon beasts at the heart of this story were inspired by the insect monsters from RODAN, the 1956 kaiju film directed by Ishirō Honda with special effects by Eiji Tsuburaya, the duo behind the original 1954 GODZILLA. DIR Masaaki Tezuka; SCR Hiroshi Kashiwabara, Wataru Mimura. Japan, 2000, color, 105 min. In Japanese with English subtitles. NOT RATED
