THE QUIET ONES

THE QUIET ONES

In 2008, a group of criminals pulled off the biggest heist ever completed on Danish soil: stealing a whopping 70 million Danish krone (about $10 million) from one of Denmark’s five cash-handling firms — and to this day, only 4 million krone have been recovered. In his solo directorial debut, Danish filmmaker Frederik Louis Hviid, working from a taut script by Anders Frithiof August, concocts a suspenseful and thrilling fictional account of this historic robbery that echoes forerunners like RIFIFI and HEAT. Kasper (Gustave Griese) is a chiseled boxer whose aspirations are two-fold: earn enough money to support his wife and daughter and make a name for himself in the ring to ensure his legacy. When he is approached by the slimy Slimani (Reda Kateb), the mastermind behind a Swedish heist that turned bloody a year earlier, to plan what will become the legendary theft, the Danish pugilist agrees — at the risk of losing everything he holds dear. –Javier Chavez
