MARIA'S SILENCE Watch Trailer

MARIA'S SILENCE

[MARIJAS KLUSUMS]
Based on actual events, MARIA’S SILENCE tells the story of stage and silent film star Maria Leiko as she is swept up in the Soviet Union's Great Terror of 1937, finding herself in the eye of the storm as it closes in around her. Summoned to Moscow to assume responsibility for her newborn grandchild, Maria is pushed into joining the Latvian theatre troupe Skatuve. As she attempts to care for her granddaughter, Maria strives to keep the ominous warning signs of encroaching danger out of her mind. After all, she and her work are apolitical — how could she ever fall victim to the rising tide? –Eli Prysant
