SOMETHING IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN
[QUE NADIE DUERMA]
After winning the top prize at Cannes Critics' Week in 2012 with AQUÍ Y ALLÁ and the John Cassavetes Award at the Independent Spirits with LIFE AND NOTHING MORE in 2018, director Antonio Méndez Esparza returns with SOMETHING IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN, a low-key thriller with surreal touches of the absurd. Lucia (Malena Alterio, also appearing in UNDER THERAPY) lives an uneventful life as an IT specialist. When her company goes bankrupt, she decides to make a radical change and become a taxi driver, meeting a series of colorful clients, including Roberta (Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, THE MACHINIST, PARALLEL MOTHERS), a theater producer who becomes a close friend. Yet Lucía secretly hopes that one day, Braulio (Rodrigo Poisón, PEOPLE IN PLACES, THE QUEEN OF SPAIN), an actor with whom she had a fling, will jump in her taxi and finally become her prince charming. But reality can be stubborn, and people might not be who they seem. Méndez Esparza co-wrote the screenplay of this twisty black comedy with Clara Roquet (LIBERTAD, CREATURA), crafting a one-of-a-kind character for Alterio, who won a Goya Award for Best Actress for her go-for-broke performance.
