FOREMOST BY NIGHT
[SOBRE TODO DE NOCHE]
Forced to give up her son for adoption, Vera (Pedro Almodóvar regular Lola Dueñas, VOLVER, TALK TO HER) has spent the rest of her life looking for him. Due to a wall of bureaucracy, she is told his record has been purged — he never existed. Meanwhile, in San Sebastian, Cora (Ana Torrent, THE SPIRIT OF THE BEEHIVE, CLOSE YOUR EYES) is a doting adoptive mother to the young Egoz (newcomer Manuel Egozkue), now turning 18. As their paths finally collide, the trio hatches a plan to meet in Portugal and plot vengeance on those who kept them apart all these years. The debut feature from Spanish artist Víctor Iriarte is a noir-tinged revenge story that engages with the dark side of Spanish history in an ambitious, fragmented narrative that soars thanks to the committed performances of Dueñas and Torrent as two mirrored mothers.
