VERDIGRIS

Special Features: Closing Night. East Coast Premiere. Welcome by Geraldine Byrne Nason, Ambassador of Ireland to the United States | Q&A with director Patricia Kelly, producer Paul FitzSimons and lead actor Geraldine McAlinden

Plus post-screening reception sponsored by the Embassy of Ireland, Washington DC

Unhappily married, middle-class and reluctantly retired Marian (Geraldine McAlinden) takes on a secret part-time job as a census enumerator to escape her depressing home life and controlling, abusive husband. On her tough inner-city route, she meets the brash, bold and streetwise teenager Jewel (Maya O'Shea), who lives alone and earns money as a sex worker after being abandoned by her mother. Marian finds herself striking a deal with Jewel — she won't report her to the authorities if Jewel helps her convince the locals to fill out their census forms. On the surface, these two strangers have nothing in common, but as they walk the streets of Dublin, an unlikely friendship blooms that will change both their lives. Winner of the Best Independent Film at the 2023 Galway Fleadh, Best Narrative Feature at the Kerry International Festival, Audience Award for Best Irish Film at the Newport Beach Film Festival and Best Feature Film at the Irish Film Festival London, Patricia Kelly's social-realist debut feature depicts inner-city life with incredible humor and charm, telling a potent story about class, friendship and empowerment.
