Special Features: Opening Night. East Coast Premiere. Welcome by Orla Keane, Deputy Ambassador of Ireland to the United States | Q&A with director Lisa Mulcahy and writer Elisabeth Gooch, plus post-screening reception sponsored by the Embassy of Ireland.
In the wilds of 1864 Ireland, deep within the vast and remote estate of Knowl, newly orphaned, self-determined 18-year-old heiress Maud Ruthyn is grieving alone. Stifled by the times she lives in, Maud defies the warnings of her official trustees and becomes the ward of her estranged, shady Uncle Silas, whom she innocently welcomes to live at Knowl with his children and their governess. She soon learns that her increasingly menacing relatives have plans for her and her considerable inheritance, and Maud must fight for her sanity, safety and birthright. LIES WE TELL is a sharp, suspenseful and gritty gothic drama deftly directed by Lisa Mulcahy and superbly acted by the great-granddaughter of Seán O'Casey, Agnes O'Casey (RIDLEY ROAD); David Wilmot (THE WONDER); Holly Sturton (SMOTHER); and Chris Walley (THE YOUNG OFFENDERS). Winner, Best Cinematography in an Irish Feature, 2023 Galway Film Fleadh. DIR Lisa Mulcahy; SCR Elisabeth Gooch, from the novel "Uncle Silas" by Sheridan Le Fanu; PROD Ruth Carter.
