OCTOPUS SKIN

[LA PIEL PULPO]
Sequestered on a deserted island off the coast of mainland Ecuador, 17-year-old twins Iris and Ariel live an isolated life alongside their emotionally unstable mother and sister. At one with the natural world surrounding them, the twins have created their own intimate world, one that blurs conventional boundaries between siblings. When a stranger happens upon their jagged coast, Iris jumps at the opportunity to hitch a ride to the city, with Ariel reluctantly tagging along. There among the vast crowds and shopping malls, they will discover the world from which they've been shielded. Ecuadorian filmmaker Ana Cristina Barragán (ALBA) has crafted a sensuously shot, earthly coming-of-age tale featuring fearless performances from its young leads. Official Selection, 2022 San Sebastian Film Festival; 2023 Munich Film Festival. DIR/SCR Ana Cristina Barragán; PROD Samuel Chauvin, Isabela Parra. Ecuador/Greece/Mexico/Germany/France/Italy, 2022, color, 95 min. In Spanish with English subtitles. NOT RATED
