BLUE JEAN
Special Features: DC Labor FilmFest Closing Night. Free screening exclusively for Silver Cinema Club Members!
In Georgia Oakley's stunning directorial debut, it's 1988 in England and Margaret Thatcher's Conservative government is about to pass Section 28, a series of laws stigmatizing gays and lesbians, forcing gym teacher Jean (Rosy McEwen, in a powerhouse performance) to live a double life. As pressure mounts from all sides, the arrival at school of a new student catalyzes a crisis that will challenge Jean to her core. This BAFTA-nominated drama won the Venice Film Festival's People's Choice Award as well as four British Independent Film Awards, and offers a viscerally conflicted snapshot of impossible choices in the struggle to find where — or if — we have a place in this world to be accepted unconditionally.
