ROLLING THUNDER (1977)
Special Features: Intro by George Pelecanos at the Feb. 3 show
After seven years of detention at a POW camp in Hanoi, Major Charles Rane (William Devane, KNOTS LANDING, MARATHON MAN) returns home a changed man. His wife has moved on and his son barely remembers him. He struggles to readapt, unable to shake the wartime mentality. The only one who understands his situation is fellow vet Johnny Vohden (Tommy Lee Jones). After a barbaric robbery by four border outlaws goes wrong, Rane is left with a mangled hand and a vendetta against the men who murdered his family. With a sharpened hook for a hand, he heads to Mexico on a blood-soaked revenge mission. Directed by John Flynn (whose 1973 film THE OUTFIT also appears in this series) from an original script by Paul Schrader (TAXI DRIVER), ROLLING THUNDER remains as potently shocking today as when it made its sensational debut.
