R.M.N.
Romanian New Wave auteur Cristian Mungiu (4 MONTHS, 3 WEEKS AND 2 DAYS) crafts another riveting social drama, putting one small town under a microscope to reveal the broken core of contemporary Romanian society. After quitting his job at a slaughterhouse in Germany, Matthias (Marin Grigore, SIERANEVADA) hitchhikes his way back to his Transylvanian hometown, long a melting pot of ethnicities, religions and languages seemingly strung together by a thread. Thrown aside by his estranged wife and son, he rekindles a romance with an old flame, Csilla (Judith State, SIERANEVADA), the manager of a small bread factory. Unable to hire enough workers to qualify for a European Union grant, Csilla turns to Sri Lankan immigrants to get the job done, unearthing the barely dormant bigotry and xenophobia long baked into the town's DNA.
