EO

Special Features: Oscar® nominee, Best International Feature Film

After being removed from a traveling circus, the only life he's ever known, a grey donkey named EO treks across the Polish and Italian countryside, aided and hindered by a string of characters that includes a Polish soccer team, a young Italian priest and a countess played by the incomparable Isabelle Huppert. Inspired by Robert Bresson's renowned 1966 donkey tale AU HASARD BALTHAZAR, 84-year-old Polish director Jerzy Skolimowski's latest film — his first in seven years — is much more minimalist and experimental. Frequent use of red and blue filters, subjective shots and drone footage courtesy of cinematographer Michal Dymek create an almost literal donkey's-eye view of the world that gives the film a unique and bold texture. EO is a film about kindness and cruelty, man's follies and triumphs and all the emotions one may project onto a donkey "acting" in a film — but it's also just a story about a four-legged beast. Winner, Jury Prize, 2022 Cannes Film Festival. Official Selection, 2022 AFI FEST, New York and AFI European Union Film Showcase film festivals. DIR/SCR/PROD Jerzy Skolimowski; SCR/PROD Ewa Piaskowska. Poland/Italy, 2022, color, 88 min. In Polish, Italian and French with English subtitles. NOT RATED
