MAGNETIC FIELDS (2021)
Special Features: 2023 Oscar® Selection, Greece
[MAGNITIKÁ PEDÍA] [Μαγνητικά Πεδία]
Shot on MiniDV over just 15 days with an improvised script (co-credited to its lead actors) and tiny crew, MAGNETIC FIELDS — directed by comic-book artist Yorgos Goussis in his narrative feature film debut — is a lo-fi, charming road movie about two souls in search of a connection. Elena (Elena Topalidou), a dancer fleeing her past, boards a ferry to the island of Kefalonia on a whim. There, she meets Antonis (Antonis Tsiotsiopoulos), a surly man en route to a cemetery where he plans to bury a box containing the remains of his aunt. When his car breaks down, Elena offers Antonis a ride to the cemetery, but the groundskeepers refuse to accept the remains due to bureaucratic nonsense. Undeterred, the two embark on a journey across the mountainous Greek island in search of a final resting spot. Official Selection, 2021 Thessaloniki Film Festival. DIR/SCR/PROD Yorgos Goussis; SCR Elena Topalidou, Antonis Tsiotsiopoulos. Greece, 2021, color, 78 min. In Greek with English subtitles. NOT RATED
