THE WILD BUNCH - THE DIRECTOR'S CUT

Special Features: Intro by Silver Spring-based author, producer and screenwriter George Pelecanos on July 29

In this gritty classic, aging outlaw Pike Bishop (William Holden) prepares to retire after one final robbery. Joined by his gang, which includes Dutch Engstrom (Ernest Borgnine) and brothers Lyle and Tector Gorch (Warren Oates and Ben Johnson), Pike discovers the heist is a setup orchestrated in part by his former partner, Deke Thornton (Robert Ryan). As the remaining gang takes refuge in Mexican territory, Thornton trails them, resulting in fierce gunfights with plenty of casualties. Director Sam Peckinpah's THE WILD BUNCH is a powerful tale of hangdog desperados bound by a code of honor that rates as one of the great Westerns. Carefully restored in 1995 to its original running time, this cut of THE WILD BUNCH includes several scenes that were cut for the film's 1969 U.S. release, which was trimmed by 10 minutes to ensure additional daily screenings.
