SUDAN, REMEMBER US

SUDAN, REMEMBER US

In 2019, documentarian Hind Meddeb traveled to Sudan to chronicle the end of dictator Omar al-Bashir’s violent 30-year reign amidst a coup d’état. Training her lens on a collective of young activists, Meddeb lets their inspirational slogans, powerful art and fervor for change tell the story. She captures a moment of triumph in an embattled country and the hope that it brings — until, that is, the country descends into a chaotic civil war that rages on to this day and threatens the dreams of the Sudanese people. But, despite this terror, the activists at the center of this moving documentary prove their unwavering resolve to usher in a brighter future for Sudan. Official Selection, 2024 Toronto Film Festival. DIR/SCR Hind Meddeb; PROD Taoufik Guiga, Abel Nahmias, Alice Ormières, Michel Zana. France/Tunisia/Qatar, 2024, color, 76 min. In Arabic and English with English subtitles. NOT RATED
