THE OTHER WAY AROUND
[VOLVERÉIS]
Filmmaker Ale (Itsaso Arana) and out-of-work actor Alex (Vito Sanz) have come to the mutual decision — or so they insist — that they should break up after 14 years together. Following the wise words of Ale’s father (celebrated director Fernando Trueba, in a rare acting turn), who long claimed that it is the end of a relationship that should be celebrated, not the beginning, they decide to throw one final party. Naturally, the news is received with a mix of shock and dismay, and, as Ale and Alex begin to untangle their very intertwined lives, they wonder if the party might be a terrible idea. Spanish filmmaker Jonás Trueba (THE AUGUST VIRGIN), who co-wrote the film with his two lead actors, crafts a delightful anti-rom-com in the mold of classic screwball comedies but with a distinctly postmodern twist. –Josh Gardner
