POISON

Special Features: Special Presentation | Q&A with director and producer Désirée Nosbusch

Lucas (Tim Roth) and Edith (Trine Dyrholm, also at the festival in THE GIRL WITH THE NEEDLE) have been estranged for 10 years. At Edith’s request, the formerly married couple meet at the cemetery where their only child is buried. Toxic chemicals have leeched into the soil, and the body must be reinterred. Over the course of the day, the couple’s past is similarly unearthed, and the lingering pain and resentment they felt — indeed, the poison that destroyed their marriage — is dug up once again. Yet perhaps this encounter is what Lucas and Edith need to find closure and move on… Adapted by Lot Vekemans from her acclaimed play, and directed by first-time feature filmmaker Désirée Nosbusch, POISON is an exquisite two-hander that showcases the formidable acting prowess of its European stars. It is a raw, intimate and poignant exploration of love, grief and hope. –Javier Chavez
