PEACOCK

PEACOCK

A hilarious, biting satire, the feature debut from Austrian director Bernhard Wenger follows rent-a-friend professional Matthias (German actor Albrecht Schuch, ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT), who can be whomever you want him to be. He is a refined companion for a classical music concert, the perfect boyfriend at an apartment showing or even the dutiful son for a promotion-hungry businessman. But while he is endlessly charming on the job, Matthias struggles in his personal life. He is a blank slate, practically nonexistent without a prompt. A harsh realization sends him spiraling down a path of existential despair, grasping at straws to find out who he really is. A razor-sharp takedown of contemporary society, Wenger’s deft touch and smooth visuals recall both Yorgos Lanthimos and Ruben Östlund, while Schuch is brilliant as a man truly on the verge of a nervous breakdown. –Josh Gardner
