BLACK TUESDAY
A rarity is revived for Noir City! AWOL for almost 20 years, this brutal and breakneck hostage yarn is powered by one of Edward G. Robinson's most vicious performances. He plays gangster Vince Canelli, who makes a daring prison break on the day of his execution, holing up with a group of horrified hostages. Who will survive? Vigorous direction by Argentine filmmaker Hugo Fregonese (HARDLY A CRIMINAL) and stark imagery courtesy of the great Stanley Cortez (THE MAGNIFICENT AMBERSONS) abet Robinson as he chews apart the scenery and his fellow cast members. (Note adapted from Noir City.) DIR Hugo Fregonese; SCR Sydney Boehm; PROD Robert Goldstein. U.S. 1954, b&w, 80 min. NOT RATED
BLACK TUESDAY also screens as part of a Double Feature with LE TROU on Sun, Oct. 13 (introduced by Eddie Muller) and Tue, Oct. 15. View details here.
