HOOP-LA in 35mm w/ THE PILL POUNDER
Special Features: Introduction by film historian David Stenn, author of “Clara Bow: Runnin' Wild”
Clara Bow's film career ended on a high note in this role as Lou, a tough carnival dancer who attracts crowds for her sensual performances. Annoyed at her boss (Preston Foster), she accepts a bet to seduce his sensitive son (Richard Cromwell). She is ultimately successful when she takes him to a lake and goes for a nude nighttime swim. Bow's presence is magnetic in her final role before she decided to retire from movies at the age of 28. HOOP-LA is an excellent melodrama set against a gritty carnival backdrop from top director Frank Lloyd, who won the best director Oscar® for another of his three 1933 films, CAVALCADE. DIR Frank Lloyd; SCR Bradley King, Joseph Moncure March, from Kenyon Nicholson's play "The Barker"; PROD Al Rockett. 1933, U.S., b&w, 85 min. NOT RATED
